IND v ENG 2021: Team India members celebrate the 10-wicket win in third Test over England

India beat England by 10 wickets in 3rd Test in Ahmedabad.

Akshar Patel was named Man of the Match for figures of 11/70 | BCCIThe Indian team defeated England in the third Test in Ahmedabad in a day/night encounter by 10 wickets. The game played at the newly named Narendra Modi Stadium, saw the ball turning from day one and resulted in a match that ended in 2 days’ time.

Joe Root had won the toss and England batted first. However, Indian spinners, especially Akshar Patel dominated the proceedings picking 6/38 as only Zak Crawley showed some resistance, making 53.

But still, England only managed 112 runs, with Ashwin chipping in with 3 wickets and Ishant, in his 100th Test taking the first wicket to fall.

India didn’t fare better, making 145 in their first innings, with Rohit Sharma top-scoring with 66. Joe Root picked his maiden fifer (5/8) and Jack Leach took four wickets. England seemed happy that India only got a lead of 33.

However, their second innings started off worse, losing a wicket on the first ball, and then it went downhill shortly, with England being bowled out for 81 runs. Akshar Patel picked 5/32 and 11/70 for the match, while Ashwin picked four more scalps.

Ashwin also completed the 400 Test wickets milestone and 600 international wickets as well.

India completed the required target of 49 runs without losing a wicket and went 2-1 up in the series with one match to go. England was also eliminated from the race of ICC World Test Championship finals’ qualification.

The Indian team members were ecstatic at the victory and at the fact they now need to ensure they don’t lose the fourth Test, also to be played in Ahmedabad and they will qualify for the final of the ICC WTC.
