Bangladesh fast bowler Abu Jayed on Monday, November 18, revealed that he has taken some tips from India speedster Mohammad Shami in a bid to further work and improve on his bowling skills ahead of the historic Kolkata Day-Night Test on November 22, 2019.

Being one of the best fast-bowlers in Test cricket, Shami is the one to whom youngsters would like to look for inspiration and Jayed was one of those.

In Bangladesh’s crushing defeat of an innings and 130 runs at Holkar Stadium, the 26-year-old was the only touring bowler who managed to leave a mark in Indore, as he bagged four wickets, including Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara during India's only innings of 493 for six.

Ahead of the historic pink-ball Test under the lights at Eden Gardens, Jayed has revealed that he paid extra attention to how Shami’s bowling in the nets and the pacer feels he can emulate the Indian star’s bowling skills since they use the seam of the ball.

Jayed was quoted as saying by ICC, “I spoke with [Mohammad] Shami bhai yesterday [Saturday]. There are some similarities between him and me since we both use the seam. I have seen him bowl a lot of times and I paid extra attention to how he was bowling. I have compared his height to mine to find out if he is taller than me or of equal height. Then I figured maybe I could bowl like him.”

On the preparations for the Day-Night Test, the young fast bowler said: “Our squad did have a practice session with the pink ball back at Dhaka but I was playing at NCL (National Cricket League) at that time. We have a practice session, after bowling with it I will understand the difference.”

Jayed signed off by saying, “I will discuss our strategy [with the pink ball] with my coaches. As the ball is a new one, we also need to measure the amount of movement the ball gives off. I should also get a hold of the amount of swing that is on offer.”
