Young Bangladesh all-rounder Afif Hossain lauded Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad for allowing his players to play their natural game in Delhi T20I against India.

In the first T20I of the three-match series, Afif finished with 1/11 in his quota of 3 overs to help the Tigers to register a seven-wicket win over India in Delhi on Sunday.

Afif told reports ahead of second match in Rajkot on November 7, Thursday: “The environment is pretty good in the dressing room. Our captain’s (Mahmuddullah) message is simple — play in a way that suits you best. Aggressive instinct in the field (in first T20) was a part of our plan.”

The all-rounder was also refused to comment on whether India is in pressure after Delhi defeat but said Bangladesh’s win in the opening match instills confidence in the national squad which will help them in coming matches on the ongoing tour.

He added, “I can’t say if India is in pressure. But we are confident enough after winning the first match. We are feeling good, which will help us to improve in the coming matches. We are not thinking about winning or losing the series. Now we are just focusing on our job. We are just trying to give our best.”

The 20-year-old also commented on the absence of Shakib Al Hasan, saying the entire squad is trying to give their best to make up for his loss. He added, “Shakib Bhai has sent congratulation message to the whole team. I always used to follow Shakib Bhai since I was a kid. Everyone is trying to perform their best in their roles. It is our team plan.”

Hossain, who didn’t bat in Delhi, has played six T20 Internationals and is happy with his role in the side, adding: “I am a batting all-rounder but I did not get the chance to bat in the last match. But I had the opportunity to bowl and I tried to perform to the best of my abilities.”

He signed off by saying, “The journey is really pleasing. I am able to learn a lot of things from here. I was always excited as thing is my first tour with the national team. Definitely, it is different because the opponent is a very strong here. I am playing first time against experienced opponents.”
