After the three-match T20 International series opener was played under smog in Delhi, a cyclone threat is looming over the 2nd match between India and Bangladesh at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot to be played here on 7 November (Thursday).

The cyclone Maha is expected to make landfall on the Gujarat coast on the matchday on Thursday and that could lead to heavy rains in Rajkot.

According to the India Meteorological Department' (IMD) latest forecast, the cyclone Maha is likely to hit the Gujarat coast as a 'cyclonic storm' between Porbandar and Diu during the early hours of matchday at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

The Maha cyclone – an 'extremely severe cyclonic storm' is currently over the Arabian sea and placed approximately 660 kilometers away from Porbandar, though, it is predicted that it would weaken into a cyclonic storm before hitting the Gujarat coast.

The IMD has predicted that the second match between India and Bangladesh which is set to begin at 7 pm would probably receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers in Rajkot.

However, the Saurashtra Cricket Association is ready for all situation and host the match in Rajkot as the state body is keeping a tab on the weather forecasts.

A senior SCA official told PTI from Rajkot on Tuesday (November 5): “We are fully prepared to host the game but at the same time we are keeping a close tab on the weather. It is expected that it may rain in the morning on the 7th but the game is in the evening.”

Noteworthy, India and Bangladesh players have already reached Rajkot on Monday.
