India beat Australia by 36 runs in the second ODI match at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot yesterday and levelled the series 1-1 with one match to go.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and opted to bowl first. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave a good start of 81 runs, before Rohit got dismissed by Adam Zampa for 42 runs. Dhawan and Virat Kohli continued to score runs and their 101 runs stand set the platform for a big score. Dhawan missed his hundred by 4 runs and got out for 96. Shreyas Iyer also failed and got out for just 7 runs.
Virat Kohli and KL Rahul took the charge in their hands and kept India in a good position. KL Rahul's quick-fire 80 runs off 52 balls and Kohli's 78 runs helped India to post 340/6 on the board. In the reply, Australia had a poor start and last match's centurion David Warner got out cheaply.
Aaron Finch too couldn't convert his start but Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne kept Australia alive in the match before Kuldeep Yadav's double-wicket over broke Australia's backbone and sealed the match for India. Eventually Australia were bowled out for 304 runs and lost the match by 36 runs. For Australia, Smith played 98 runs knock while for India, Mohammad Shami took 3 wickets.
