Former Australia batsman and cricket commentator Matthew Hayden wasn’t impressed with Virat Kohli’s batting position in the ongoing first match of the One Day International (ODI) series between India and Australia at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (January 14).

Hayden questioned Kohli’s decision as the Indian skipper had given up his no.3 position to KL Rahul with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan opening the innings in the Mumbai ODI against the Aaron Finch and his team on Tuesday.

Well, the decision didn’t prove to be fruitful for the hosts, as India lost all the four top-order batsmen for 156 in 31.2 overs with only Dhawan managing to cross the fifty-run mark in Mumbai.

After the dashing right-hander lost his wicket for just 16 off 14 balls, Hayden said Kohli should have batted at No. 3 instead of Rahul who managed 47 runs in the ongoing Mumbai ODI.

As per reports in Fox Sports.com, Hayden said in a commentary: “You’ve got someone like Virat Kohli that has played 230-odd one-day matches and 180 of those have been at No.3 and he has scored almost 10,000 runs at that particular position.”

He signed off by saying, “Why is there even any debate about it? He should just be batting No.3. Make the tough call, someone is going to miss out, the form will prevail, the injury will prevail, and someone (else) will get their opportunity.”
