Australia had come into India for the limited overs series as the underdogs, given the form of the Indian team in the previous series against New Zealand. India had beaten New Zealand in the ODI series quite convincingly. Australia started off well by winning the T20I series 2-0, but things became normal when India won the first two ODIs of the five-match series.

Australia made a comeback by winning the Ranchi and Mohali ODIs in style and tied the series 2-2. In the final game of the series in Delhi, Australia batted first and put on 272/9 on board with a century from Usman Khawaja.

India needed the top three to fire, but Dhawan returned back to normalcy with 12 to his name and Kohli was out for 20. Pant got an opportunity to bat at no.4 and scored 16 before Lyon had his number. Rohit Sharma continued on at the other end and reached his 50, completing 8,000 runs in his ODI career as well.

However, when India was losing wickets at the other end, Rohit Sharma experiences a moment of brain fade and went for a hoick against Zampa. Rohit missed the ball and also lost his bat and was stumped for 56 runs.

His dismissal caused quite a furor on social media and Twitterati used his dismissal to pull his leg.
