IND v AUS 2019: Twitterati hails Shikhar Dhawan’s 143 as India piles 358/9 In Mohali ODI

Rohit Sharma fell 5 runs short of his century.

Rohit Sharma made 95 runs | GettyThe Indian team took full advantage of a beauty of a track at the Punjab Cricket Association’s IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, Chandigarh. Virat Kohli had won the toss and chose to bat first, as the Indian team came into this match after a loss in Ranchi.

India made four changes bringing in KL Rahul, Yuzvendra Chahal, Rishabh Pant and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in place of Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, and Mohammad Shami. The last time India played here, they scored 392 against Sri Lanka in 2017 thanks to 208* from Rohit Sharma.

The Indian team had faced adversity in the last three matches since the openers failed to lay a good platform for the team and it was the bowlers and lower order that won them matches in Hyderabad and Nagpur. However, both Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma redeemed themselves in Mohali by adding 193 for the first wicket. Rohit fell for 95 (7 fours and 2 sixes), but Dhawan went on to smoke 143 in 115 balls with 18 fours and 3 sixes.

Virat fell for 7, Rahul made 26 and Pant made 36 in 24 balls. Some impetus to the innings was provided by Vijay Shankar, who made 26 runs in 15 balls. India managed to reach 358/9, as Jasprit Bumrah smashed a six off the last ball.

For Australia, Jhye Richardson picked 3/85 and Pat Cummins picked 5/70.

Twitterati was elated with Shikhar Dhawan finally scoring a scintillating century after a long time and showered praise in form of tweets.
