Kapil Dev, the legendary Indian fast bowler, has suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) should allow a team from Afghanistan to take part in the historic Duleep Trophy tournament and various other Indian domestic competitions, including the most important Ranji Trophy, for their better substantial growth as a red ball cricket team.

The highest Tests wicket taking fast bowler from India with 431 Test wickets, Kapil Dev was concerned, having watched Afghanistan's performance in their maiden Test against India that concluded inside 2 days, and said that the newest Test entrants aren't ripe for the sternest sporting challenge yet.

He was quoted saying to Mid-day on Friday as, "Let them participate in the Duleep Trophy as it will prepare them for Test cricket. Playing against quality domestic teams will help them develop confidence. The BCCI has been very encouraging towards Afghanistan by letting them use our facilities and grounds. I feel this will be an important step towards developing their confidence for the longer format,"

He further talked about admirable Afghanistan and said, "Afghanistan have played exceptionally well in limited overs cricket. This was a new experience and they shouldn't get demoralised with the result. They are quick learners and I am sure with a little support and encouragement, they will live up to Test standards,"
