Karnataka batsman Karun Nair was part of the Indian squad for the historic Test against Afghanistan recently in Bengaluru. While his fellow state mate KL Rahul got a chance to play in the Test, Karun had to contend with watching and cheering his teammates from the dressing room.

Speaking about the Afghanistan Test, Karun felt that each and every player contributed to India’s big win over the Test debutants.

"We were not looking at who was playing and we were focusing on our brand of cricket. It doesn't matter who we play or where we play. It is about focusing on how we play as a team. We have to keep that as constant," Nair told Sportstar.

"We have done that (been consistent) for the last few years, and if we can do it, we will stay as No. 1 Test team. Everyone chips in at the right moment and collectively you start performing. We can beat any team on the day," Nair said.

Nair also believed that more and more exposure to Test cricket will help Afghanistan get a hang of this format and will make them better with time. "It is a historic moment for them to get Test status and play against India. It is a great thing like the way Afghanistan has made it to Test cricket. They will only get better," Nair said.

"We have seen how fast they have improved in T20 and ODI cricket. It's about getting more games under their belt. They will learn from this match," Nair said.

Karun Nair’s next assignment is leading the India A team to the England tour.
