India is playing Afghanistan in the historic inaugural Test at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
After the elation of Afghanistan players donning their Test caps, Ajinkya Rahane and Asghar Stanikzai went for the toss, which came down in favor of Indian captain and Rahane chose to bat first despite a greenish track.
However, the Indian openers namely Shikhar Dhawan and M Vijay negotiated the early seam and swing and though Vijay put the anchor at one end; Shikhar Dhawan went hammer and tongs at the Afghan bowlers.
In due course, he reached his 50 in 47 balls and continued plundering the Afghan bowlers to all parts of the Bengaluru ground. Dhawan smashed the star opposition bowler in Rashid Khan to smithereens, as he ended up giving 51 runs in his 7 overs, not a good start in whites for the young leggie.
Dhawan went on to become the first Indian batsman to score a century before lunch on the first day of the Test match and remained unbeaten on 104 off 91 balls with 19 fours and 3 sixes, going into lunch.
