India will take on Afghanistan, the 12th team to make debut in Test cricket, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru from June 14. It will be India’s 522nd Test match. But as any other experienced international side, Afghanistan will be no pushovers in this game, as they have proved in their recent run in international cricket. In their last 11 one-day international series, bilateral or multilateral, Afghanistan have won seven while two have been drawn. They only lost series against Bangladesh and Ireland, also a new Test-playing side by narrow margins. The teams that Afghanistan beat included Test-playing ones and they included even the West Indies two-time World champions. India will certainly be the favorites despite the Afghan assertion as the cricketing powerhouse

Best economical pick – 17-year-old Afghan spinner Mujeeb Zadran would be looking to make the best use of this series. He performed really well in the recently concluded IPL and now his focus must be on the important wickets of the Indian batting stars including Ajinkya Rahane, Murali Vijay and Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara.

Top captains & vice captains – R Ashwin has proved, again and again, his effectiveness as a match winner in Test cricket and has been one of the leading spinners in world cricket. India’s prime spinner in Test cricket, Ashwin, would be hoping for another miracle with the red ball. He has been amazing so far in the white jersey after Harbhajan’s magical era. Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara has been a tremendous player for the Indian team, especially in Indian conditions. He has the appetite for scoring big runs and he will be key in tackling the Afghanistan spinners, who are a major threat to the Indian team.

Smart pick – The fastest to take 100 wickets in ODIs and joint second quickest to take 50 scalps in T20s, Rashid Khan can turn the Test match on his individual ability. He can spin the ball either way and can create tussles in the minds of Indian batting giants. His recent success in the cricket is an indication of his superb form. Khan has the ability finish off the game within 3 days if the curator makes a spinning wicket.

Cautious Pick – Murali Vijay has been around with the Indian team for a long time. He has been a calm head at the top of the order in the Test team. However, the right-hand batsman hasn't been in top form of late. Vijay, who did not have a good Test series against South Africa.

My XI – R Ashwin (Captain), C Pujara (Vice-Captain), Mujeeb Zadran, Rashid Khan, Asghar Stanikzai, Mohammad Nabi, Dinesh Karthik, Lokesh Rahul, Karun Nair, Umesh Yadav, Javed Ahmadi
