Indian fast-bowling spearhead Mohammed Shami has failed on Monday (11 June) to pass the mandatory fitness test (Yo-Yo Test) at the National Cricket Academy. As a result, Navdeep Saini has been named as a replacement for the Bengal cricketer for the historic one-off Test against Afghanistan.

Noteworthy, the Yo-Yo Test has become compulsory for the Indian Team and even skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri have made it clear that players have to pass the fitness test to be considered for the national selection at the International level.

Since his brilliant outing in South Africa earlier this year, things didn't go down well with Shami whether be it his family issues or his fitness, which has really been creating constant troubles in his crickerting career.  Since then, Shami’s performance has been also under scanner as he played only 3 IPL 2018 matches for Delhi Daredevils.

His wife Hasin Jahan recently alleged that Shami has an extra-marital affair and even registered domestic violence case against him and his family, which has given him the biggest shock and due to which Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) terminated his national contract for a brief period. However, later Shami was given Grade B contract.

Meanwhile, Shami’s childhood coach Badruddin is surprised that the pacer failed to pass the fitness Test, as he was completely fit and bowled full throttle at the nets in Moradabad a couple of days back before leaving for Bengaluru, where India will play Afghanistan in one-off Test from 14 June.

Badruddin told CricketNext, “I am quite taken aback by this news because he trained here in Moradabad with me a couple of days back and he looked fine to me. He did take time off after Delhi’s IPL campaign ended, but it wasn’t like he was losing the shape of anything. He had been playing non-stop and then the issues at home was also troubling him, so we felt that cutting off from everything for a while would help him come back stronger. He bowled full throttle at the nets and even worked on his batting.”

Shami featured in only three matches for DD in IPL 2018.  However,  fitness was not the reason for it. The DD member signed off by saying, “He was fit. The decision was related to his form and performance and had nothing to do with his fitness.”
