Afghanistan are all set to start their journey as a Test playing nation, when they will take on the No.1 ranked India in the one-off Test match in Bengaluru on June 14.

In June 2017, Afghanistan along with Ireland, who even already played their maiden Test against Pakistan last week, were awarded Test status by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

On Tuesday (May 29), Afghanistan Cricket Board announced the 16-member squad for their historic maiden Test match. Afghanistan’s white-ball captain, Asghar Stanikzai, has been shouldered with the responsibility of leading the Test side.

Leg-spin sensation Rashid Khan, who finished the IPL 2018 as the second highest wicket-taker with 21 scalps from 17 matches, was also named in the squad, along with the 17-year-old off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who represented KXIP in IPL 2018.

Yamin Ahmadzai and Wafadar Momand will spearhead the pace attack while the likes of Mohammad Shahzad, Javed Ahmadi among others will take up the batting responsibility.
