Indian skipper Virat Kohli had to appear in a rugged press conference after India were beaten 4-1 by England.

Head coach Ravi Shastri's comment that this Indian team is best in last 15-20 years backfired. Though, it was Kohli who was at the receiving end when he went to face the media. A bitter question on the same was presented to him on which he replied, "What do you think?" When he was told "I'm not sure", he responded: "You're not sure? That is your opinion. Thank you."

While many think Virat response was ill-mannered, Sunil Gavaskar is standing by him. He backed the Indian captain and said the question asked was at the wrong time. "That's probably the wrong time to ask him that question because he is hurting from the defeat. The reporter was perfectly justified in asking that question but I don't think any skipper would have responded differently," Gavaskar told India Today in an exclusive chat.

The former Indian cricketer also went on to clarify about Shastri's comment on team India being the best touring team in last two decades. Gavaskar feels the comment made by Indian coach just to make the team comfortable.

"The coach might have said that to boost the morale of the team. I don't think he was trying to rubbish the earlier teams, that I don't think was Ravi Shastri's intention. I don't think they should read too much into Virat's reaction either. It was clearly understood that the skipper was disappointed with what had happened," he added.

Once again India saw only one man fighting for them throughout the series with the bat, Virat Kohli. With the ball, Indian pace bowlers were decent. However, their inability to wipe up the English tail cost them the series. More than the top order, it was the lower order which snatched the game away from India.
