The fifth Test match between England and India is seeing England slowly but surely taking control of the match with Cook and Root unbeaten at the end of day three.
However, this Test match was a dream come true for one person and that was Andhra Pradesh’s middle order batsman Hanuma Vihari, who became the 292nd player to represent India in Test cricket. He marked the occasion with a matured innings of 56 on his debut. He, along with Ravindra Jadeja, added 77 runs lower down the order to put India in a more respectable position, after England reduced India to 174/6 at the end of day two. Vihari and Jadeja (86*) took India to within 40 runs of the England total of 332.
Vihari, who had a rich domestic season for Andhra especially the Ranji Trophy, shares a special bond with a current Team India support staff member. That member is the fielding coach R Sridhar.
Vihari in a video for the BCCI shared that he first met Sridhar in a cricket camp back in the day. Sridhar then interviewed Vihari asking questions about his tough debut and how he felt all along.
