James Anderson, the England fast bowler has been fined 15% of his match fee after it was found that he breached the Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct on day two of the fifth Test at the Oval against India.
England’s all-time leading wicket-taker in Tests has been found to breach Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an International Match”.
One demerit point was added to the veteran’s record, whose last offense came in September of 2016. Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
Anderson had snatched his cap and sweater from umpire Kumar Dharmasena and had an aggressive conversation after Dharmasena had turned down his appeal for LBW against Virat Kohli. The incident happened in the 29th over of India’s innings and Anderson admitted the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees and, as such, there was no need for a formal hearing.
The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Joel Wilson, third umpire Bruce Oxenford, all from the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires, and fourth umpire Tim Robinson.
