KL Rahul may have had a disappointing Test series against England with the bat but his catching has proved to be the revelation for India.

With a stunner at mid-on to dismiss Stuart Board on the second day of the fifth Test at the Oval, Rahul etched his name in the history books as he became the first-ever fielder to take 13 catches in a Test series in England. The previous record of 12 catches in a Test series on English soil was jointly held by Wally Hammond, Jack Ikin, Ian Botham and Allan Border.

With 13 catches in five Test matches till now in the series, KL Rahul also equaled a long-standing Indian record for most catches in a Test series. One of the greatest ever slip fielders, Rahul Dravid, had taken the same number of catches during the 2004-05 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home. Dravid, however, achieved the feat in a four-match Test series.

The other two fielders who had grabbed 13 catches in a Test series are West Indies' Brian Lara and Australia's Bob Simpson. In fact, both of them had done it twice in their career. While Lara achieved the milestone against England (1997-98) and India (2006), Simpson's feat came against South Africa (1957-58) and West Indies (1960-61).

The record for most number of catches by a fielder in a Test series is held by Australia's Jack Gregory, who took 15 catches in 1920/21 Ashes series. Gregory’s fellow citizen, Greg Chappell, is next on the list with 14 catches during the 1974/75 Ashes series.

KL Rahul is likely to get another chance to equal or surpass the all-time record when England will come out to bat in their second essay.
