ENG vs IND 2018: I don’t play for people, perceptions or reputations, says Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, Captain of the Indian Cricket Team, has revealed, on Friday (7 September), his success mantra and the reason behind staying in top-form consistently.

The dashing right-hander is currently in England, where he has been in phenomenal with the bat in the ongoing five-match Test series, amassing 544 runs so far in the series. However, India losing the Test series has put his brilliance with the bat under cover. 

The 29-year-old further went on to claim that he only plays to help the team win and that people will remember him for his attitude in the field. 

In an interview with Michael Holding for Sky Sports, Kohli revealed, “I am focused on having a very solid life and being happy with life and doing the right thing on a daily basis. Then, everything feels like an enjoyable journey and part of the larger picture. I don’t play for people, perceptions or reputations. I only play for the team to win. I didn’t start to play for numbers. People will only remember your attitude and what you brought to the field.”

Meanwhile, Kohli also lauded the West Indian great Viv Richards and expressed his desire to emulate him the way he inspired people, saying he just needs to the right things to inspire people.

He signed off by saying, “Nobody talks about Sir Viv Richards’ average, they talk about his attitude and the charisma he brought to the field, how he inspired people. I see this as a greater responsibility to be put in the position I am by that power, to inspire people. For that, I need to do the right thing from morning till night.”
