ENG vs IND 2018: Harbhajan Singh surprised to see Hanuma Vihari playing ahead of Karun Nair

India handed debut to Hanuma Vihari for the fifth Test at The Oval.

Harbhajan Singh felt surprised that India picked Vihari ahead of Nair.

With India not quite following the pecking order but going by their eye for talent in picking Hanuma Vihari ahead of Karun Nair for the fifth Test at The Oval, veteran Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has called the move a very surprising one to make.

While, Karun Nair has already played 6 Tests for India and is only the second Indian batsman to have made a triple-hundred behind Virender Sehwag, India selected Vihari, who has been not only been a prolific run-getter at the domestic level, he is considered a player of sound defensive technique.

The team management is within it's right to pick who they find the best player but there was widespread criticism of the move and many hailed it as unfair on Nair, who has been part of the squad since the start of the series.

Harbhajan, who is in England currently doing commentary for the ongoing series on Sky Sports, was quoted saying, "I am a bit surprised to see Hanuma Vihari play ahead of Karun Nair, who has been a part of the team from the first match itself and didn't get to play a game. Nair has been on the tour from the beginning, hasn't got a game, but the new guy comes into the team from the fourth Test and straightaway gets to play"
