England and India reached the Ageas Bowl in Southampton to play the fourth Test of the five-match Pataudi Trophy. England has come into this match 2-1 up but has lost the last Test match they played at Nottingham.

India, on the other hand, came into this Test match all cock-a-hoop after their brilliant win of 203 runs.

The third day of the Test started with England openers Cook and Jennings playing as well as they could against an energetic Shami and Bumrah. Cook was the first one to crack, as he edged to Rahul for 12 off Bumrah and Jennings then followed suit as he was trapped LBW by Shami. Ishant Sharma deflated the England experiment of sending Moeen Ali at no.3, by dismissing him for 9 runs on the stroke of lunch.

Shami returned to clean bowl Bairstow for a first ball duck and India found themselves ahead in the game with England 92/4. But Joe Root hung on to scored 48 runs before he was run out by a direct hit from Mohd Shami.

Ben Stokes (30) and Jos Buttler added 56 runs for the 6th wicket as they frustrated the Indian bowlers to not end. Ashwin finally picked up a wicket, dismissing Stokes, caught by Rahane. But Buttler then started gathering runs with Curran for support.

Ishant Sharma finally got rid of Buttler, but not before he had scored a brilliant 69 in 122 balls with 7 fours.

England ended day three with a lead of 233 runs and two wickets in hand, as Shami removed Adil Rashid to end the day's play.
