England and India reached the Ageas Bowl in Southampton to play the fourth Test of the five-match Pataudi Trophy. England has come into this match 2-1 up but has lost the last Test match they played at Nottingham.
India, on the other hand, came into this Test match all cock-a-hoop after their brilliant win of 203 runs.
Day two started with Broad bringing England back in the game, as he removed Rahul leg before wicket for 19. Rahul practically wasted a review, despite being plumb in front of the wicket. Dhawan was looking good, but Broad got him to nick to Buttler for 23 runs, leaving India 50/2.
Then Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli (46) added 92 runs for the 3rd wicket. Virat Kohli in the process completed 6,000 runs in Test cricket in his 119th inning and became the fastest Indian to achieve this milestone.
Curran got Kohli to edge one to Cook and England bowlers then dominated the proceedings. Rahane was dismissed by Stokes LBW for 11 and then Moeen Ali picked a fifer consisting of Pant, who equaled the Indian record for the longest duck in 29 balls; Pandya, Ashwin, Shami and Ishant Sharma. His demolition job left India stranded at 227/9.
Perhaps the face-saving partnership came between no.11 Jasprit Bumrah and Cheteshwar Pujara, who went into another gear to take the England bowlers to task. Pujara completed his 15th Test century off 210 balls with 11 fours.
Indian innings came to an end when Stuart Broad got Jasprit Bumrah (6) to edge to Cook in slips with the score on 273 and a lead of 27 runs. Pujara and Bumrah added 46 valuable runs for the last wicket.
Cheteshwar Pujara remained not out on 132 off 257 balls with 16 fours.
England had to play four overs in the end and survived without losing a wicket and scored 6 runs.
