Veteran Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir is elated at the performance of the Indian pace trio in the opening day of the fourth Test match in Southampton.

After their resounding all-around performance at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, Team India started the fourth Test on a high, as the touring side bowled out England for 246 runs in 76.4 overs in the first innings in Southampton with their bowlers standing upto the occassion.

Gambhir  told Times of India on Friday (31 August), “I think England winning the toss and then getting bowled out for 246 was a brilliant effort by the Indian bowlers. The wicket looked really good. It swung a bit. I thought it was a very good wicket to bat, but the bowlers were outstanding again. England did make a comeback from 86/6. But I still felt it was India’s day, especially after losing the toss.”

The left-hander especially mentioned Jasprit Bumrah while praising the Indian bowlers saying it was an unbelievable effort and is confident the Men in Blue will continue with this form against England.

Gambhir signed off by saying, “When you can get the opposition out for 246 and then get off to a decent start without any loss. Obviously, India can take it from here and can look to dominate Day 2 from here. Probably I thought the bowlers were outstanding. Again Jasprit Bumrah was unbelievable. I thought it was a fantastic team effort from the bowlers’ point of view.”
