Former England captain Ray Illingworth has claimed on Monday (27 August) that Virat Kohli-led Indian Cricket Team has all potential and firepower to match the exploits of the Australian cricket great Don Bradman and his team, who won the 1936-37 Ashes after trailing 0-2 in the series.  

Illingworth’s comment came after India’s thrilling win of 203 runs in the third Test at Trent Bridge last week after trailing 0-2 in the ongoing five-match Test series. The way India make a fantastic comeback in the ongoing Test series highly impressed the English great.

Illingworth has also claimed that India will be high on confidence after winning the third Test and will test English side hard in the final two Test matches.

As per reports in IANS, Illingworth said, "Well, India have shown they have come here to fight. They did very well to make a comeback in the series by winning the Test match at Trent Bridge convincingly. I would say, the series is 50-50 and after the Trent Bridge win, India has a chance to do what no other team could manage to do in many many years after Don Bradman's team in 1936-37.”

He also said that the defeat of Joe Root’s men in the Nottingham was a reality check for the hosts as they need to improve their game if they want to avoid defeat in the spiced-up Test series.

Illingworth signed off by saying, “I would still say, both teams have equal chances. England has to pick up and improve on their performance at the Trent Bridge. India, on the other hand, would be much more confident now after their convincing victory.”
