Mumbai chief selector and former Indian pacer, Ajit Agarkar believes that Rahul Dravid’s feedback for Prithvi Shaw has worked wonders for the 18-year-old after his India selection for England Test series.

A couple of years back, then Mumbai chief selector Milind Rege was not convinced about drafting in the teenager into the squad for the Ranji Trophy semi-final, but India U-19 and A coach, Dravid’s consultation served to clear all doubts and Shaw was selected for the 2016-17 semifinal against Tamil Nadu.

On Wednesday (22 August) same scenario happened, as the national selection panel led by M.S.K. Prasad is understood to have consulted Dravid yet again before settling in on Shaw as Murali Vijay's replacement for the remaining two Tests in England.

Agarkar told Sportstar, “If Rahul has given them the feedback, which I assume they would have sought, that's all you would want to know. He is not going to promote him for his promise or age.”

Meanwhile, Shaw has had an incredible year so far, leading India U19 to their fourth title in the World Cup in New Zealand and then fetched a whopping INR 1.20 crores to play in the Indian Premier League 2018 for Delhi Daredevils. 

Later, the Mumbai batsman was roped in into India A squad for England tour following his strong performances in the IPL 2018 and he also justified his selection by scoring three centuries and a couple of fifties to impress the selectors.

However, his selection for England series has hardly raised any eyebrows as he has done brilliant job in First-class cricket, having amassed 1418 runs at 56.72, with seven hundreds and five fifties.

On the other hand, Agarkar feels Shaw has got a golden opportunity to team up with the Virat Kohli and his Co. so early in his career that will do really wonder for him. He signed off by saying, “Even if he doesn’t get a game, just to be around the group and a happy change room will work wonders for him. I am sure this exposure will make him an even better batsman.”
