ENG v IND 2018: 3rd Test, Day 4 – India requires one wicket to beat England; Jasprit Bumrah takes a fifer

Jos Buttler scored his first Test century and added a century partnership with Broad.

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler took England to a position of respect with 169-run partnership | GettyThe fourth day of the third Test between India and England at Trent Bridge proved to be totally in India’s favor, despite a glimmer of fight back from the England team, who were chasing 521 runs. India requires just one wicket to win on the final day of the Test match.

England started day four 23/0 and it was just a matter of time before Ishant Sharma got Jennings to edge one to Pant. Then Ishant also accounted for Cook caught by Rahul, for the 11th time in Tests, for 17. Joe Root and Ollie Pope tried to stick there and weather the storm, but Bumrah had Root caught by Rahul and Shami got rid of Pope and England was teetering at 62/4.

Then came a partnership of 169 runs between Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes for the fifth wicket and both of them kept the England bowlers at bay. Both of them batted through from lunch till tea. Buttler scored his first Test century (106 off 178 balls with 21 fours) and was solid like a rock. Stokes, on the other hand, negotiated Ashwin well and scored 62 off 187 balls with 6 fours.

India took the new ball as soon as it was available and Virat gave it to Jasprit Bumrah, who immediately removed Buttler and Bairstow in successive balls to breathe new air into the Indian journey to a famous Test win. Stokes’ vigil came to an end when Pandya had him caught by Rahul.

Jasprit Bumrah did give Rashid a life, by dismissing him on a no-ball. Rashid and Broad added 50 runs for the 9th wicket before Bumrah rectified his mistake and removed Broad for 20 and completed his second Test five-wicket haul.

India had to claim the extra half hour due to Broad-Rashid partnership, but they manage to wrap the match in that time and Rashid kept them at bay, with England finishing day 4 on 311/9. India will need one wicket on day 5 to win the match.
