England wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow suffered a fractured finger after being brutally hit by a ball while keeping on Day 3 of the third Test at Trent Bridge against India. The ball from James Anderson during the 44th over of the innings swung late, and as he couldn't quite grab the curve early, it hit Bairstow on the middle finger of his left hand.

Bairstow had to immediately let go of his keeping gloves and went away in pain from the field to undergo an X-Ray, the reports confirmed the fracture later.

Bairstow was later seen in the English dressing room balcony with his injured finger dipped in a glass of cold water without any protective strappings.

However, it is highly likely that in the wake of England's poor position in the game - them chasing the impregnable looking target against a talented Indian bowling attack - Bairstow could be seen batting if required for the cause.

He has been in some very good form in the series too. Having scored a fine looking 70 in the first innings at Edgbaston, Bairstow took the game away from India along with Chris Woakes by contributing 93 to 189-run stand.
