England's captain Joe Root confirmed that allrounder Ben Stokes will be back in the side for the Third Test at Trent Bridge. He will replace Sam Curran, who had done extremely well with both bat and ball in the first two Tests.
England have a rich variety of allround options to choose from and it reflects when Stokes has to make his way in for someone who was awarded Man-of-the-Match in the first Test. Stokes has been cleared of affray charges and will look to get his career back on track with another match-winning performance.
"It was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve had to make as captain. It’s about us as a squad delivering over five games and on this occasion Sam is unfortunate to miss out," said Joe Root
He added, "Ben is desperate to get back playing cricket. He’s desperate to get out there, put in performances and concentrate on his cricket now. He feels ready to play."
England have a great recent record at Trent Bridge and will look to seal the series here with another convincing victory over India, who are reeling after a demoralising innings defeat at Lord's.
England's XI for Trent Bridge:
Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Joe Root*, Ollie Pope, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.
