ENG vs IND 2018: BCCI should send the chairman of selectors on tours, says Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar has raised questions on some of India's selections in South Africa and now in England.

Sunil Gavaskar has said that chairman of selectors should be present on tours with the Indian Team.

Having seen some genuine tactical selection errors from the Indian Cricket Team on tours of South Africa and now England this year, former Indian batsman and legend Sunil Gavaskar has said that there seems to be a substantial disconnect in the decision making from the selection committee and what the Indian team wants and is doing. The great man actually believes that the chairman of selectors should always be present on tours with Indian team so as to avoid the blunders.

"I know there are some selectors (Sarandeep Singh and Devang Gandhi) in England but BCCI should send the Chairman of selectors. The team management and chief selector should together pick the playing eleven. This will ease the pressure on that front from Virat." Gavaskar told India Today and added, "Because don't forget your playing eleven choice for the next test in Nottingham will be critical to keep the series alive else we will have to forget about it,"

Gavaskar also thinks that having lost four of his last five overseas Tests as a captain, there could be pressure on Virat Kohli.

He said, "When the team is not doing well, even if you are scoring, there is pressure on you as a captain. Virat will be facing the same pressure. Particularly because there have been questions asked on his selection of playing eleven in each game. So there is more pressure,"

"Your selection in the last five away Tests have proven to be wrong. You just won the Johannesburg Test but four Tests have been lost. That's why to help Virat, not to constrain him, you need the chief selector there." Gavaskar reiterated the need to restore the tradition of traveling selector having a say in selecting the eleven and concluded, "Because sometimes you want to share your views on selection with selectors. It's after all the selectors who have given you the squad so it would be better if there is consultation between selectors and the team management,"
