England bowlers wreaked havoc and bundled out India for just 107 and 130 to register an innings and 159 runs victory in the second Test at Lord’s. By virtue of this thumping win, Joe Root and company also secure a 2-0 lead in the five-match Test series.

The inept technique of Indian batsmen once again exposed as the English pace attack led by James Anderson made the most of seaming conditions. While Anderson claimed 9-wicket haul, Stuart Broad picked up 5 wickets in the match.

None of the Indian batsmen managed to cross the 40-run mark. Ravichandran Ashwin was the top-scorer for the visitors in both the innings, with 29 and 33 runs respectively. It is worth mentioning here that India were bundled out for 274 and 162 in their 31-run defeat in the opening Test at Edgbaston.

Seeing the way Indian batting line-up capitulated in the first two Tests against England, former Australia batsman Dean Jones has come up with an advice for Virat Kohli and his men. Jones, who has scored 3631 runs in 52 Tests for his country, suggested the Indian batters to stay outside the crease to counter the swing of English bowlers.

Taking to Twitter, Jones wrote: “India's last 2 Test in UK 107 130 274 162 tells me the Batsmen need to change their game plan somehow. Batsmen need to be proactive. Bat outside crease more. Hurt The short ball. Use the swing to their advantage to create holes. #ENGvIND”.

“While batting in England can be difficult in certain conditions.. the pitches and swing, quickly find out how good your defence is. And asks, what’s your game plan and how will you execute it? Just occupying the crease won’t cut it,” he further added.

Just a couple of days ago, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar had advised the visiting batsmen to use the space in the crease by tweeting: “Sanjay Bangar must ask his batsmen to check out the space inside the batting crease and use it more, like Ashwin does. It will have surprise gifts for his batsmen.”

When someone pointed out that Manjrekar’s viewpoint is completely different to his suggestion for the Indian batsmen, Jones replied: “No problem with @sanjaymanjrekar comments.. each to their own.. but bat in pairs.. 1. Bat deep 2. Bat outside the crease.. but formulate a game plan.. trying to just occupy the crease doesn’t work.”

It will be interesting to see how the No.1 ranked Test side will bounce back in the third Test, scheduled to be played at Trent Bridge from Saturday (August 18).
