Former Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir has said that India's performance at the Home of Cricket in the second game of the Test series against England was not up to the mark at all.

India batting first scored only 107 in conditions very much tilted in favour of swing and seam bowling and then gave away 396/7, with the home side building their lead over visitors to impregnable proportions, and then followed it with yet another poor batting performance in overseas conditions by managing only 130 runs and this Gautam Gambhir found very disturbing.

Gambhir was quoted saying on Times of India as, “The way we lost the Test match was very disturbing. There was no fight shown by the Indian batters and yes the conditions were a little difficult in both the innings for them, but you don’t expect this team to bundle out in literally three days, They should have shown some fight in the second session to take the game into the final day and anything could have happened from there on,”

While he is disappointed with Virat Kohli's men, Gambhir is also quite optimistic of the side making a comeback in the series.

“India can make a comeback, but it is always difficult to make a comeback to win all the three games. They still have an opportunity to think about drawing the series. They can look to win 2 Tests out of the remaining 3 and then look at the way forward. They should take one Test match at a time,” Gautam said and concluded.

The third Test of the series begins on Saturday, August 19 at Trent Bridge.
