ENG vs IND 2018: VVS Laxman wants India to play two spinners for the Lord's Test

Laxman wants India to field either Ravindra Jadeja or Kuldeep Yadav alongside Ravichandran Ashwin in the spin department.

VVS Laxman wants India to play Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja together for the Lord's Test.

Former Indian Cricketer VVS Laxman has suggested the Indian team management to field two spinners in their eleven for the all-important Lord's Test. While Ravichandran Ashwin has made a genuine case for finally becoming India's first-choice spinner irrespective of the conditions through his performance in Edgbaston, there has been a debate on who would be India's second spinner in case they field one.

The choice is between Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav. While the former has been a top-class Test spinner in last 18-24 months, the later has shown that he can trouble English batsmen during the limited-overs leg of the tour.

VVS gave his insight into the matter on ESPNcricinfo and said, “I will go for an extra spinner and go in with five bowlers and not play Hardik Pandya and probably have (Ravindra) Jadeja there. It was a tough call between Jadeja or Kuldeep (Yadav). But because the Indian batsmen struggled in the first Test and overly dependent on Virat Kohli,"

“If they would’ve got a big score in the first match I would’ve probably gone in with the aggressive option which is Kuldeep. Now it is a like for like swap. Jadeja having fond memories from what he did at Lord’s last time, can bat and then with Jadeja in the squad you also have depth in the squad,” and further added, “Three quality fast bowlers – Umesh (Yadav) will hopefully get his rhythm right in this Test match. So Umesh, Ishant (Sharma) and (Mohammed) Shami and then you got two spinners in (Ravichandran) Ashwin and Jadeja,”
