Apart from Virat Kohli who scored 149 and 51 in the two innings of the Edgbaston Test, none of the other Indian batsmen impressed on a pitch that spun and provided seam movement for the bowlers. India lost the first Test by 31 runs and gave England a lead of 1-0 going into the second Test at Lord’s.
The second innings of India saw a possession of wickets as M Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane all failed to give support to Virat Kohli, who was on a one-man mission to win the Test for India.
Indian batting undid all the good work that Indian bowlers, especially R Ashwin (7 wickets in the match) and Ishant Sharma (5/51 in the second innings) did.
This performance has led to calls of including Rohit Sharma in the Indian Test team for the second Test onwards.
Fans took to Twitter and asked for the 'hitman' to return to the Indian Test team.
