ENG v IND 2018: Ben Stokes breaks the jaw of England physio Craig de Weymarn during warm-ups

Incident happened on Friday and De Weymarn had to rush to hospital.

England physio Craig de Weywarn had to undergo surgery on a broken jaw after a nasty accident before play on Friday between England and India. He was giving Stokes underarm throwdowns when the all-rounder hit the ball straight back at him.

It struck De Weymarn in the face and he was taken to hospital where he underwent surgery. England's physio was the one who accompanied Stokes when he flew to New Zealand to resume his England career earlier this year.

De Weymarn, who had to undergo surgery, was not wearing a helmet and England and Wales Cricket Board will take it seriously. They will have have to look into the safety of allowing non-cricket staff to participate in net practice and drills.

Earlier this year, we saw a similar incident when D'Arcy Short, the Hobart Hurricanes player, had hit his coach Gary Kirsten who suffered a cracked jaw and needed dental work to fix multiple broken teeth, although he did not require surgery.
