If there was anything left that differentiated Virat Kohli from the greats of the game, his amazing 22nd Test hundred has obliterated that gap as well.
Virat Kohli single handedly took India within touching distance of England’s score of 287, when the next best score was 26 runs. After Sam Curran’s three strikes in eight balls, India never truly recovered from those blows and had Kohli not kept his composure and got some help from the tail-enders, India would have been looking a deficit of more than 100 runs.
But Virat Kohli soldiered on towards his century and even luck shined on him as Dawid Malan grassed him on 21 and repeated it again when Kohli was on 51. Kohli farmed the strike brilliantly, but also showed confidence in his lower order, by giving them strike. They responded well and Kohli took the attack to England bowlers and was the last man out for a brilliant 149 with 22 fours and 1 six off 225 balls, taking India 13 runs short of England’s total.
