The second day of the first Test match between England and India at Edgbaston was dominated by Indian captain Virat Kohli who played an awesome knock of 149 runs and kept India alive in the Test.

In early morning India dismissed England for just 287 runs and openers Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan gave a good start and added 50 runs for the first wicket but Sam Curran's 3 wickets in just 8 balls broke the backbone of the Indian team and all of a sudden India reduced to 100/5. But captain Kohli was rock solid at the other end and went on to score his 22nd Test hundred and brought India back into the game. In the second innings, England ended on 9/1 with a lead of 22 runs.

1 - For the first time in his career, Alastair Cook has been bowled out in both the innings of a Test match. 

9 - R Ashwin has now dismissed Alastair Cook 9 times in Test cricket - the joint most he dismissed a batsman in Tests.

149 - Virat Kohli's 149 is the second highest by an Indian batsman in an innings where no any other batsman scored more than 30 runs. VVS Laxman scored 167 runs against Australia at Sydney in 2000 where Sourav Ganguly was second highest scorer with 25 runs.

149 - Virat Kohli's 149 is also the second highest score by an Indian captain in a Test innings in England.
