ENG vs IND 2018: England announce playing XI for first Test against India

The first Test starts on Wednesday at Birmingham.

The Test series between England and India will finally kick off with the first Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. England has announced their playing XI for the first Test which sees Adil Rashid play Test cricket after he took initial retirement from first-class cricket. 

The England selectors after much thought has paired Keaton Jennings with Alastair Cook to open the innings for England. The middle order will be shouldered by Joe Root at number three followed by Dawid Malan, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler adding depth to their batting order.

England 's playing XI is then completed by the bowlers. Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Stuart Broad and James Anderson completes England's XI for the first Test. Jos Buttler is named as the new vice-captain.

Moeen Ali's exclusion from the playing XI might raise some eyebrows. This also means that Rashid will be the lone spinner in the line up.  With much of debate around Rashid's recall to Test cricket, how he performs in the Test match will be an interesting watch. 

James Anderson and Stuart Broad will pair up against a formidable Indian batting line-up. Anderson's face off against Kohli will make the headlines in the first Test. 

The ODI series win will definitely make England start on a positive note as they will look to take the initiative in the first Test.
