The Edgbaston Test that marks the beginning of the much anticipated India versus England series is historic in more ways than one, as the home side will be playing their 1000th match in the toughest format of our sport.

To celebrate the occasion, England Cricket Board(ECB) released an all-time XI that features past legends, veterans and young stars produced by the three lions to wear their batch of honour playing the red-ball game at the highest level.

While Alastair Cook is partnering Sir Leonard Hutton for the most important opening slot, the middle order glitters with the presence of David Gower, Kevin Pietersen and Joe Root.

Sir Ian Botham is rightfully the all-rounder of the side and Alan Knott is there to perform the crucial wicket-keeper's role.

The world-class bowling line-up includes Graeme Swann's beautiful off-spinners and is completed by the pace attack of Fred Trueman, James Anderson and Bob Willis.

Over 6,000 English cricket fans voted for this team and some of the selections, according to ECB, came down to a very tight contest.
