ENG vs IND 2018: Criticism regarding Adil Rashid's Test inclusion is unnecessary, says Ian Botham

Former England all-rounder and legend, Sir Ian Botham has made his views clear regarding the ongoing debate around the cricket world about Adil Rashid's inclusion into the Test squad that has been picked to take on against India. He is one of those who thinks that if England believes Adil Rashid is their best spinner, then it doesn't matter what route they take in order to ensure he is part of their side and the whole criticism of the move, Botham reiterated, is simply "unnecessary".

Earlier, other ex England players like Michael Vaughan and Nasser Hussain have voiced their disappointment about the move. While Vaughan termed it "ridiculous", Nasser went onto term it a "Kick in the teeth" of county championship and also said it "sets a dangerous precedent" for the overall game in the country.

Botham disagrees with it, he was quoted telling Sky Sports as, "I don't understand what Michael was on about, it was pretty unnecessary, Adil is fed up with it and has reacted. There has been a lot of stuff out there written and I just don't get it. I wonder if some people just do it for effect."

"I like the kid and I think he's come to terms with the way of bowling and sorted out his game plan. He does put it out there and is prepared to throw (the ball) up. The Indians will go after him but I hope he does very well. It should be an interesting contest. I think he'll enjoy the red ball — he will enjoy the purchase he can get on it and will have a point to prove."

The Test series starts with the first game in Edgbaston beginning  from August 1.
