Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has come up with an aid for the Indian batting line-up which is yet to decide its perfect opening pair. The problem of a number 4 batsman in limited overs cricket, and picking up suitable opening batsmen in Tests have been real headaches for the team India.

Ganguly, sharing his opinion on the issue, said he would go with Murali Vijay and KL Rahul as openers.

“I would go with Murali Vijay and KL Rahul as openers in the Test series. Shikhar Dhawan is a good ODI player, and he was in decent touch during the ODI series as well. However, when he opens in Test cricket in overseas conditions, he doesn’t have a good record, be it South Africa, England or Australia,” Ganguly told IndiaTV.

Sourav isn't very impressed with the southpaw Dhawan and thinks he is good for the ODIs. But also added that team management's decision is key as they will see his past record which is good.

“In India, he scores hundred in Test cricket. Even in the last match against Afghanistan, he scored a hundred before Lunch and became the first Indian player to do so. So, it will be interesting to see the team management’s decision on this,”  he added.

Interestingly, both Rahul and Vijay scored a half-century in the practice game against Essex on Wednesday, Dhawan couldn't open his account and was dismissed on a duck.
