ENG v IND 2018: Sourav Ganguly prefers R Ashwin over Kuldeep Yadav for Tests

Virat Kohli had hinted that Kuldeep Yadav may get a chance to feature in India's Test playing XI.

Youngster Kuldeep Yadav has impressed everyone with his performance in the limited overs. It has sparked a debate about his inclusion in the Indian Test XI. While some stand with Kuldeep's addition in the playing XI, rest think the experience matters and current spinners should not be replaced for upcoming India vs England.

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly also shared his opinion on the trending discussion. While the off-spinner has already been replaced in the ODI and T20I, Ganguly doesn't want him to be replaced in the longest format.

“You can't let him (Ashwin) fade away. 300 wickets is not a matter of joke. It's a common trend that what's not playing is probably better but it's not the case sometimes,” said Sourav on Cricbuzz.

Ganguly thinks the competition in the team will help Ashwin performing better and that will eventually benefit Indian cricket team.

“Ashwin has a place in the side, he will reinvent himself because he has been challenged, he has felt competition in the squad. He knows Kuldeep is up for his Test place, which will happen very shortly if India wins the T20Is and ODIs (analysis from before the start of the tour), so he will reinvent,” Ganguly said.

“You saw the leg spin in IPL and he will get better. People must realize that 300 wickets don't come like that, so he deserves a lot more opportunities,” he added.

The first of five Tests between India and England will be played on August 1.
