England received an injury scare ahead of the first Test against India as pacer Mark Wood left the field during Durham's County Championship match against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham on Sunday (July 22).

As per the reports in Daily Mail, Wood departed after suffering discomfort in his heel. He returned to the action later in the day but did not bowl again.

During the recently concluded ODI series against India, Mark Wood claimed only two wickets but he bowled economically in the third ODI [1/30 in 10 overs] at Leeds to secure the series for England. Given his extra pace to hurry any batsman in the world, Wood is expected to play a vital role in the five-Test series against India.

Meanwhile, Chris Woakes went wicketless in Warwickshire's Division Two fixture versus Middlesex at Lord's, as did Stuart Broad for Nottinghamshire against Surrey. England’s leading Test wicket-taker, James Anderson scalped 1 for 38 for Lancashire against Yorkshire at Old Trafford.

The much-awaited Test series between India and England will commence on August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Lord’s (Aug 09-Aug 13) will stage the second Test while Trent Bridge (Aug 18-Aug 22), Rose Bowl (Aug 30-Sep 03) and The Oval (Sep 07-Sep 11) will host the third, fourth and fifth Test respectively.
