The name which we are hearing regularly since Indian Premier League 2018 is Jos Buttler. The England cricketer has made a name for himself with his ongoing golden period. Buttler himself admitted he is having a great time and wants to continue the form.
A batting promotion in Rajasthan Royals changed everything for Buttler. He is enjoying his batting now. "It’s been a really enjoyable few months," he tells the Mail on Sunday. "Yeah, it’s the form of a lifetime, but what I’ve done well is having the hunger and desire to turn up the next day and do it again. I want to be able to continue that."
Buttler revealed his mindset from earlier days when he was younger. He also added how IPL changed himself for good. "When I was younger, I used to believe you couldn’t score runs every time. You’d play a good innings, and think it took the pressure off: if I don’t play as well tomorrow, it’s not the worst thing because yesterday I played really well.
"The IPL was a big eye-opener. I also watch guys like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson – I’ve watched how consistent they are. Kumar Sangakkara’s another. He’d just want to turn up each day and win the game for his team."
Buttler looks up to Indian cricket star MS Dhoni. Calling him his idol he said the wicket-keeper batsmen said what he likes a lot about Dhoni. "He’s always been a bit of an idol of mine, especially his demeanor," says Buttler. "I enjoy the way he never looks flustered, and he’s one of these guys who seems to be not out at the end."
After playing a match-winning knock for his team against Australia to seal the series 5-0, he had mentioned about Dhoni. "I remember playing a game at Edgbaston, where India needed five off two, and he hit one to deep square and turned it down. He backed himself to hit a six."
Buttler hasn't set a limit for anything to give himself room for growth. "It’s about that purity of batting and being in the moment," he says. "It’s more access your subconscious. I also feel really determined and excited to find out how high the ceiling is – not putting limits on anything. Where is the level I can get to?
"Suddenly without knowing it, you’re 27 – and I thought I was still 21, 22, starting out. Now I’m realizing I’m at that stage of my career where I want to be accessing how good I can be."
