England Captain Eoin Morgan is mighty impressed with the matchwinning innings that the best batsman of his side played, as Joe Root turned his and his team's fortunes around with a terrific knock of 113 at Lord's in the second ODI of the ongoing series against India.

Batting first, the home side needed a good start which was provided by the openers Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy but to post a substantial score on the board, they would've been desperate for a good, solidly played long stay at the crease and it was provided by Root. His ability to counter the threat of India's spinners in the middle overs and then accelerate later, helped England reach a stiff looking 322/7.

It laid the foundation for England's easy win in the end, as the Indian innings never really got going and they got bowled out for just 236 and gave Eoin Morgan's men a huge victory to set up the series decider at Leeds in a couple of days time.

Root was adjudged the Man of the Match for his knock and a pleased Eoin Morgan said at the post-match presentation party that, "The way he accumulates an innings and sets up the backbone of our innings. He's the glue of our batting,"

He further said, "I thought we bounced back really well, similar to the T20I series. Learned from the first game and improved. Challenges against spin on a similar surface, if not a tougher one. Joe was excellent and the boys upfront were good too"

"The bowlers put on a clinical performance as well. Well, it worked out (the decision to bat). It's my home ground and it's good that it paid off,"

With series now leveled 1-1, the 3rd ODI will be played in Leeds on July 17.
