The MSK Prasad led BCCI All-India Senior Selection Committee is yet to name the Test squad that will be taking on against England and one of the reasons for the delay is the fitness of some key players.

While Mohammed Shami has just cleared the Yo-Yo test to prove his availability and there is a continuous monitoring of Jasprit Bumrah's thumb injury, it is the concern regarding India's premier Test wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha that is making Indian cricket sweat the most.

Saha, who sustained a thumb injury during the Indian Premier League couldn't take part in the Test against Afghanistan, was expected to recover by now but that hasn't been the case. He is currently training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and is in a race against the time to be available for selection for the Test series starting August 1.

The selection committee and the team management are leaving it as late as possible to pick the squad. It has been learnt that even though the Test side members will be there by the time, the selectors are likely to announce the official squad after India A's four-day unofficial Test against England Lions at Worcester that begins July 16.

According to TOI, a source close to the Indian team management was heard saying, “The injury is more serious than it seemed. He is still wearing a plaster on his thumb. He is just going through his fitness drills and very little cricket, It will be a huge risk if he goes to England with even one percent doubt in his mind. The selectors will pick a day for day for selection in another two days,”

Talking about Shami, the source said, “Shami is being closely monitored. He virtually played no cricket for three months due to his personal problems. It’s a matter of getting him back in shape,”

If Saha is absent, it is expected, Dinesh Karthik will be performing the important role behind the stumps.
