BBL 09: Strikers beat Scorchers by 16 runs; Hurricanes blow away Thunder by 57 runs

Wes Agar | GettyAdelaide Strikers won the bat flip and chose to bat first. The decision paid dividends as Phil Salt (59) and Jake Weatherald (35) added 71 in 7.2 overs for the opening wicket. Contributions kept coming in as Head (35), Carey (25) and Wells (23) led the Strikers to 181/5 in 20 overs. For Scorchers, Matt Kelly (2/26) and Ashton Agar (2/29) were the best bowlers.

In reply, only Liam Livingstone stood upto a disciplined Strikers’ bowling attack, as he made 79 in 54 balls with 1 four and 7 sixes. The best scores were 17 by Kurtis Patterson and 16 by Jhye Richardson, as Scorchers managed just 165/7, losing the match by 16 runs.

Wes Agar made 3/36 and Billy Stanlake (2/20) were the main architects of this win with the ball for Strikers.

Hobart Hurricanes v Sydney Thunder

Matthew Wade (6 fours and 2 sixes) and Macalister Wright (64 with 4 fours and 3 sixes) were the stars with the bat, while George Bailey played a nice cameo of 10-ball 29 runs, as Hurricanes made 185/6. Daniel Sams picked 4/34 and Arjun Nair picked 2/19 for Thunder.

In reply, D’Arcy Short ran through the Thunder batting with figures of 5/21, while Scott Bolan picked 2/31. Alex Hales made 63 with 5 fours and 4 sixes, while Alex Ross made 36, as Thunder capitulated for 128 runs in 17/3 overs, losing the match by 57 runs.
