BBL 09: Adelaide Strikers beat table-toppers Melbourne Stars in a close contest

It was Stars' second successive defeat after nine consecutive wins.

Adelaide Strikers hosted Melbourne Stars in the 48th match of Big Bash League 09 at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday (January 22).

Asked to bat first, Strikers posted 162/4 in 20 overs on the back of Jonathan Wells’ unbeaten 55 from 36 deliveries, including 4 fours and 2 sixes. Alex Carey (33 off 21 balls) and Matthew Short (23* off 15 balls) also chipped in with the bat.

Clint Hinchliffe was the stand-out bowler for Stars, claiming 3 wickets for 19 runs in his three overs.

In reply, the table-toppers fell 11 runs short of the target. Apart from skipper Peter Handscomb (65* off 39 balls), none of the Melbourne batsmen made a substantial contribution.

For Strikers, Peter Siddle (4/33), Wes Agar(2/30), Rashid Khan (1/24), Michael Neser (1/26) were economical and among the wickets.
