Indian pacer Abhimanyu Mithun was summoned in the Karnataka Premier League 2019 betting and spot-fixing scandal as the investigating authorities wished to question him and go deeper into resolving the case that brought shame to the game in the state and the country.

Mithun becomes the first international player to be questioned by Central Crime Branch sleuths probing the scandal.

The 30-year-old right-arm pacer captains Shivamogga Lions in the tournament.

"Yes, we have directed Mithun to appear before the CCB for questioning," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Patil confirmed the development.

With Mithun having played 4 Tests and 5 ODIs for India, the CCB has also kept the BCCI in loop. "We have prepared some questions for Mithun about his game during the last KPL season," a CCB officer said.

In the ongoing case, the Bangalore police has arrested eight people since July, including the owner of team Belagavi Panthers, Ali Asfak Thara, whose plea for bail was on Wednesday (November 27) rejected by the Karnataka high court.

Shivamogga Lions isn't the first side Mithun has played for; he previously turned up for Malnad Gladiators and Bijapur Bulls in the league.

Further, the CCB last week issued notices to Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and KPL team managers and sent them a questionnaire on the KPL matches.

It is believed, certain players who didn't join hands with the bookies got honey-trapped.

Mithun is currently playing for Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20.
