Meghalaya’s Abhay Negi slams 14-ball fifty against Mizoram; makes new Mushtaq Ali T20 record

Abhay broke the record of Robin Uthappa.

Abhay Negi | TwitterThe Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 trophy match between Meghalaya and Mizoram saw a national record broken as Meghalaya all-rounder Abhay Singh Negi slammed a 14-ball half-century and broke the record of Robin Uthappa in India’s domestic T20 tournament.

He also equaled the record of KL Rahul for the fastest fifty in T20 cricket in India. Rahul had managed to blast the fastest fifty in IPL history in the match against Delhi Capitals in Mohali in 2018, with four sixes and six boundaries.

Abhay remained unbeaten on 50 off 15 balls as Meghalaya post a mammoth total of 207 for 4 wickets in 20 overs with Ravi Teja scoring 53 not out. This knock has brought Abhay in the sights of IPL franchises and with the 2020 auction happening next month, he might attract some huge bids.

Born in Uttarakhand, the 27-year-old has played for Meghalaya and Tripura. He made his first-class debut against Shillong in November last year and his T20 debut versus Bengal in Ranchi in January 2018.

The world record for the fastest ever half-century by an Indian is held by Yuvraj Singh, who recorded a 12-ball fifty against England in the 2007 World T20, which included six sixes in an over off pacer Stuart Broad in Durban.
