Off-spinner Nirdesh Baisoya achieved a rare feat on Wednesday (November 6), as the teenager matched the feat of the legendary Indian spinner Anil Kumble by grabbing all 10 wickets in an innings in a U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy match between Meghalaya against Nagaland.

Kumble made the history in 1999 when he finished with the magical figures of 10/74 in 26.3 overs including 9 maiden overs in the second innings of Pakistan in the Delhi Test which helped India to win that match by 212 runs.

The 15-year-old who originally hails from Meerut, returned with incredible figures of 10/51 in 21 overs with 10 maidens while playing for Meghalaya as a guest player to bowl Nagaland out for just 113 on Day one. He was happy after achieving the rare feat, saying it was a dream come true moment for him.

Nirdesh told IANS, “It’s yet to sink in. I was not born when Anil Kumble picked up 10 wickets, but I heard a lot about it. I always wanted to do something like that, never thought it would happen so early in my life. I just spoke to my parents and they became emotional as well.”

The young spinner continued, “I had picked six wickets by the first session. That is when I started to believe that I can go for all 10. My teammates backed me a lot. There was turn on the pitch since morning and the overhead conditions also helped.”

He signed off, “It was a dream come true for me and I never expected this. I have to keep working hard as I have a long way to go. I am just 15. I want to make my family, sisters, brothers, and parents proud.”

Noteworthy, the ongoing season is Baisoya’s second season in the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy where he has already snared 27 wickets in just four matches. In the last season, he managed 33 wickets from six matches.
